We understand that the building this apartment is in was built
around 1975. We bought the apartment in November 2003. There had
been very few modernisations. The obvious things have been modernised,
that is the bathroom and kitchen.
The bath itself was in bad repair, but when we measured it for
replacement we found that the space was too small for a modern normal
size bath. This led us to the idea of a shower room. The shower
room walls are completely tiled floor to ceiling. The shower area
has been custom made using mosaic tiles. The floor still has the
original tiles and the toilet and basin have been replaced with
modern Roca units. The wasing machine is also in the shower room
as there is not quite enough space to put it in the kitchen area.
The Kitchen looked like it belonged in a boat or caravan and was
probably the original fittings. This has been completely refitted
and now has plenty of cupboard space. The dividing wall has been
removed which opens up the living area nicely.
All the electricity sockets were the old type and modern appliance
plugs would not fit. One or two adapters were found, but we've now
replaced all the main sockets. The electricity system is not up
to UK standard - not even of 25 years ago - and so care has to be
taken not to plug in too many high power items at the same time
e.g. Kettle, heater, hairdryer, as the fuse box will trip. The fuse
box has a time-out which will restore the power after a minute or
two in most cases but may completely trip sometimes. We've asked
advice of an electrician, but this just has to be lived with or
have the building rewired!
We now discovered that it *was* the existing fuse box being faulty
so this has now been replaced and all is well with the electrics.
